Tandoori Chicken


  • 8-10 pieces chicken drumsticks
  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 2-3 tsp tandoori masala
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 2 tsp salt, or to taste
  • Melted butter, for basting
  • Onion, lemon wedges and fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Method –

  1. Make slits in the chicken pieces
  2. Sprinkle some salt and lemon juice and rub into the slits
  3. In a bowl, combine the yogurt and rest of the ingredients, except the butter and mix well
  4. Pour this marinade over the chicken and rub it well into each chicken piece
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight
  6. Take the chicken out of the fridge about 1 hour before cooking
  7. Heat oil in a cast iron skillet and cook the chicken pieces basting with butter whenever flipped
  8. Garnish with onion, lemon wedges and coriander leaves
