Plantain Stirfry


  • 2 raw bananas
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida powder
  • A few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

Method –

  1. Peel the skin of plantains
  2. Slice them lengthwise into 4 pieces
  3. Chop them into thin slices
  4. Keep the slices immersed in water till use
  5. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds
  6. When the seeds crackle, add cumin seeds
  7. Add asafoetida powder and curry leaves
  8. Saute for a couple of seconds and add sliced garlic
  9. Meanwhile, drain the plantain slices and set aside
  10. Once garlic turns brown, add in the plantain slices and sauté for 2 minutes
  11. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and mix well
  12. Let this cook on low heat, stirring at regular intervals
  13. Once the plantain slices get cooked and are roasted well, remove from heat and serve
