Kanchkol Alur Jhol (Raw Plantain and Potato Curry)


  • 1 large potato cut into cubes
  • 2 raw plantains, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 1/2 tsp nigella seeds
  • 2 green chillies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil


  1. Heat oil in a Kadhai
  2. Add nigella seeds
  3. When it splutters, add green chillies
  4. Add diced potato and sauté for 2-3 minutes
  5. Add raw plantain and sauté for 2 minutes
  6. Lower the heat, add turmeric powder, cumin powder and salt
  7. Sauté till oil releases
  8. Add 1 cup warm water
  9. Let it come to a boil
  10. Lower the heat and cook covered till done
