Dal Pakwan

Ingredients for Dal –

  • 1 cup chana dal (Bengal gram)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp amchur powder (dry mango powder)
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp hot oil
  • Salt to taste

Method for Dal –

  1. Boil the dal in a pressure cooker with salt and turmeric powder till soft
  2. Pour the dal into a large serving bowl
  3. Sprinkle the spice powders
  4. Drizzle hot oil and serve

Ingredients for Pakwan-

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil for kneading
  • Water to knead
  • Oil for deep frying

Method for Pakwan –

  1. In a large bowl, take the flour and salt
  2. Mix well
  3. Pour hot oil over the flour
  4. Crumble the oil and dough well
  5. Add water and knead a slightly stiff dough
  6. Make equal sized balls from the dough
  7. Roll into a medium thick round
  8. Prick the round with a fork so that it doesn’t puff up while frying
  9. Heat oil for frying
  10. Once hot, put the Pakwan into the oil
  11. Fry till crisp and brown on both side
